Hello and thank you to all the new subscribers, along with all the “old” ones. I appreciate your signing up and hope you love local food & drink as much as I do because there are some great events coming up that this newsletter is all about.
First up is an event that takes place this Saturday, November 12th. It’s a casual and wonderful seafood-focused dinner held at the Elks Lodge in South Kingstown to support Eating with the Ecosystem. Tickets are only $40 and trust me I mean only. The amount of food you get for that $40 is crazy. There’s also a raffle with lots of excellent prizes including books from some fellow Eating with the Ecosystem board members, gift certificates to local places and even some oysters!
I hope you will click on the image above to buy tickets and I’ll see you on Saturday evening in South Kingstown.
Did you know that seafood dinner event plus a ton of others can be found at any time on eatdrinkri.com? Yes, that’s right, small, independent web sites still exist and get regularly updated! I happily add food or drink focused events that come my way via email/social/DM/etc. to the Upcoming Events calendar on the site.
If you head to that page right now when you receive this newsletter you’ll find four very varied and exciting events happening on Wednesday this week, along with the above Community Seafood Dinner and loads of places that are preparing Thanksgiving dinner to-go or to make a reservation for dining in.
If you see a Thanksgiving 2022 event on the calendar this month prior to Thanksgiving Day that means that’s the business’s deadline to place your take-out order. Please support your favorite local place for Thanksgiving or any day. If you’re cooking, here’s your warning, I’ll be back on my Instagram story game!
What’s that? You haven’t played along with me as I cook my family’s Thanksgiving dinner all day long on Thanksgiving Eve and Day? If you’re following me on Instagram (if not, you know what to do) please check out my story that week leading up to and onto Thanksgiving. Send comments, ask questions, laugh along, cry along (only during onion chopping—it’s a mostly happy occasion!) and please enjoy, as this year I’m back to cooking for sixteen family members!
Let’s see if I can properly link to previous year’s stories:
Ok, two more events that I’m part that I want to highlight here and both of them are free!
The Rhode Island Food Policy Council is holding another of their “Policy for the People” Zoom seminars on Tuesday, November 15th from 12:30-2 p.m., this one on Farm Bill 101.
“Every five years we have an opportunity to change and adjust the national Farm Bill. Join us to better understand why this federal legislation is so important, and how you can help influence the change you want to see in our food system.”
If you’re interested, please register for this free webinar.
ecoRI News is having a free meet-the-reporters (with snacks!) event at Innovate Newport on Wednesday, November 16th from 6:30-7:45 p.m.
“Our reporters will share some of their latest reporting on the issues they're covering in Newport — including our recent article about how Newport's public-transit gap is impacting low-income residents. You're invited you to share your news tips over snacks at this casual after-work event. Meet our newsroom staff, and help inform our coverage of your city.”
If you’re interested in chatting with the reporters who produce some of the best news stories around for this digital newsroom covering environmental and social justice issues in Rhode Island, please register here.
And if you’re able to, please donate to ecoRI News, either once or, even better, as a recurring subscriber. The year-end fund drive has just began and we’re trying to raise $75K by December 31st. Thank you!

I’d really appreciate some viewing/subscribing on the YouTube channel. I post a new food and/or drink video about every 1-2 weeks and I recently featured some local companies: Chair 2, Papi’s Coquito and Anchor & Hope. Plus I’ve got loads of international wine and spirits videos and lots of cooking fun. Thanks for watching!
I’ll end this time with the hope that you recognized where the subject line of this newsletter comes from.
So Long.
