Four Weeks Later, Lots Going On
Not quite a month between newsletters this time, so maybe I am getting back into the swing of writing. I’ve certainly been working on writing a lot of words for a new project—details to come. There are a few things going on that I wanted to bring to your attention here before we got too far into May, in case you may be as social media deluged as I am.
First up, I’m very happy to be part of the return of Paint the Town RED to benefit AIDS Care Ocean State this Thursday, May 11. If you’re going out to eat on that day, please dine at one of the participating restaurants and they will be donating a percentage of their sales to help ACOS achieve their mission of providing quality housing, case management, medical & nursing care, and prevention to those affected by or at risk of HIV infection.
My wife Brenda and I hope to see you out to dinner or cocktails at one of these great spots on Thursday. Thank you in advance for helping AIDS Care Ocean State.
Next, a quick highlight of a feature of the Eat Drink RI web site for many years now: the Job Postings. I bring it up because there’s still a job crisis in the food and drink business (and elsewhere too), and while we can discuss what’s going on, there are some very good local businesses looking for help.
If you’re looking for work, please check out the listings, and if you’re an employer with a job to fill, as with all non-advertiser content on eatdrinkri.com, it’s free to post a job.
While on the topic of helping small businesses, the Rhode Island Small Business Coalition is hosting a Networking & Business Growth event next week with Skills for RI at Bodega on Smith. This is a free event to learn more about local programs like the Technical Assistance Program from Skills for RI Executive Director Nina Pande.
There will be complimentary valet parking, passed appetizers, and a cash bar at Bodega on Smith. Please RSVP on the RISBC site.
Let’s go for a small business trifecta. (Am I using that right? All I know about a derby is a mint julep.) If your local food or drink business is looking for a Farmers Market to sell at this summer, registration is still open for the Eat Drink RI Farmers Market at Blackbird Farm, every Sunday at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from June 11th through October 8th.
If you’re not a business owner interested in being a vendor, I hope you’re ready to shop every Sunday beginning June 11th!
It very pleasantly surprised the heck out of me at a recent event that several people came up to me (two were complete strangers!) to tell me they liked my tasting videos and did I have any more. Well you’re in luck! I’ve got a whole stockpile on my iDevices just waiting for editing and posting. Here’s the latest video and of course you can head to my YouTube channel and watch me taste things to your heart’s content.
Lastly for today, if you’re in the hospitality industry, read this far in the newsletter before 9 p.m. on May 8th and you’re interested in checking out an event with free seafood, then get yourself over to Narragansett Beer in Providence for the American Culinary Federation Rhode Island Seafood Showcase.
That’s it for today. As always, you can find stories, links, reels, posts, liquor scores, etc. on my social media:
